Bop

When tiny Bop, who was born feral in 2006, was rescued from slaughter, he was found to have bad confirmation due to bad breeding.

This brave pony is about 30 inches high. In 2011, he came through a major operation to help save his life.

In early summer, the equine vet was called when Bop started to have problems controlling his back legs. Bop was bright and, apart from his back legs, behaving just as usual. Bop ended up having an operation to remove a tumour which was compressing his spinal cord..

As the tumour was close to the nerves, the vet was only able to remove about 60 percent of it.

Within hours of the surgery, brave Bop was up and walking around, so early signs of his recovery were encouraging. Sadly, the results of a biopsy of the tumour showed that it was cancerous.

Now living at St Mary Hoo, Bop underwent a course of very low dose of chemotherapy, which was administered weekly on site by the vet. The dose was low so as not to cause Bop any further illness, but hopefully shrink the size of the remains of the tumour and so reduce the compression on his spinal cord.

Despite all he’s been through, Bop’s spirits are still high.

Bop is in the Anim-Motes Care for Life scheme and will be spending the rest of his life with us - we hope he has a happy and carefree one.
